How to Style a Sequin Skirt

Hello! Happy Monday!

Can you believe Thanksgiving is next week?! Which means the holiday season is quickly creeping up I thought it would be a good time to share this blog post – outfit inspiration for styling a sequin skirt. While this look might not be for all- I love it because it can be dressed up or down and its a fun and versatile way to add some sparkle into your holiday wardrobe.

Today’s look is my first holiday outfit of the season and it feels SO GOOD! Truly the best time of the year, and while I LOVE to be cozy (#cozygirl4life) I still enjoy dressing up! Before I get too excited and jump into all the different skirt styles and style options that are popping into my head, let me break down my look below and how I chose to style this gold sequin skirt.

There are three styles that are pretty common—the midi skirt, the mini skirt and the a-line skirt. I personally love the mini length because of my height, being 5’ 3” they tend to run a little longer on me, making the length a lot more versatile. I love that you can wear them to a fancy holiday party or one thats more casual- all depending on how you style it. For today’s post I went the more casual direction, and felt that its a perfect mix of festive, styling, and appropriate for any festive get together.

I couldn’t pass up this gorgeous skirt, it comes in two colors- black and gold, both are equally as beautiful. It is fully lined with a soft cotton material, so it’s not itchy at ALL. The trumpet shape makes it flattering on so many body types and the waist is elastic making it very comfy but also allows you to eat all of the appetizers (gimme all the carbs). I found this skirt to run TTS- I am wearing the size x-small. You could size up or down because of the waist band being stretchy. **FYI- this skirt sold out SUPER fast last year, so if you are thinking about it, I would act fast!

Since the skirt itself is glam, I wanted the top to be much more casual to help balance the overall feel of the outfit. I opted for this tan cashmere sweater that is unbelievably soft! The fit is a little boxy and very cropped which paired well with the high waist on the skirt. The sweater also runs TTS- i am wearing an extra small. You could size up for an oversized fit, or even size down for a more fitted look. I also wore this sweater with high waisted jeans this weekend and it was so cute, warm, and comfy!

To add to the causal nature of the sweater, I finished the look with my all time favorite booties! I own these in the black leather and they are 1000% worth the money. Runs TTS- wearing a size 38.

I know mini skirts are not everyones first choice, so below are my picks for each style and how I would style them.

Sequin Top: Sometimes you just don’t wanna wear a skirt, am I right? This sequin top is PERFECT for all of your holiday parties, dinner with your bffs, and NYE! I so badly wanted this top, I just couldn’t justify it with all of the other festive items I have bought this season, but if you are on the hunt for something, this is a perfect option and cannot recommend it enough. Wearing an x-small (runs TTS). For a casual option, pair with dark skinny jeans, simple earrings, and a bootie or mule. To dress the look up, opt for a block heel.

Midi: my pick here would be cute paired with a black turtleneck, black leather jacket and booties.

A-line: my pick, here I would pair this with a cream crew neck sweater (fitted), block heel, and a fun earring.

What do you girls have going on for Thanksgiving? We always head to my aunt and uncles for lunch, get our game plan for Black Friday shopping. We have a lot of birthdays in November/December on my Mom’s side of the family too, so we also celebrate with treats and presents!

Have a fabulous week- don’t let anyone dull your sparkle!

Taylor
