HI Babes!
Happy June & happy Monday 🙂 Long time no talk, May was crazy for me (maybe I’ll go into more detail in another blog post) but I am back and ready to share all things summer sweaters!
As Spring comes to an end and Summer is closing in (hello 80 degrees plus temps), I’m sure that sweaters are probably the farthest thing from your mind right now. I’m one of those strange people that thinks sweaters are to be worn year-round, and apparently, I must not be the only one, since every retailer seems to coming out with the cutest sweaters right now.
The key is finding the right knit gauge, fabric weight, and fiber for the warmer temps! Today I am rounding up some of my tips for finding the perfect summer sweater:
1. Look for a Loose Gauge
When looking for the perfect summer sweater, I often look at the gauge (or tension) of the knit. The larger or looser the gauge, the more air the sweater is going to let in. One way to tell if a knit has a loose gauge is to hold it up to the light. If you can see light through the knit, then you are probably good to wear that puppy out to your favorite summer festival or at your favorite dinner spot.
2. Go for Lightweight Knits
Probably the most obvious of my tips, and one that often goes hand-in-hand with tip #1- the lighter (or less dense) the knit or fabric, the less heat it will trap, thus keeping you cool, while still remaining cozy.
3. Chose Breathable Fibers
If there’s one tip to take note of, let it be this one. Because it doesn’t matter how lightweight your knit is if it’s made of 100% polyester (hello sweaty mess). Before you purchase your sweater, take a look at the composition of the fabric. Some summer-approved (think breathable) fibers to look for should be majority: cotton, silk, rayon, bamboo, and linen; and, even, wool, depending upon the gauge of the knit and weight of the fabric.
And because the fourth is just around the corner, I’ve rounded up a few of my favorite summer-ready sweaters from Wooden Ships and a few simple ways to style this adorable star printed sweater (which comes in several colors) to get you ready for the Americas Birthday.
Outfit Idea #1

I am all about being comfy but still pulled together. I layered my sweater over a cute bralette and paired it with my go-to Lululemon shorts. These have been in my closet for years and I own them in several colors. They run TTS. For accessories I added a straw tote and my favorite sun hat. This look is perfect for a backyard BBQ or a day out running errands.
Outfit Idea #2

Nothing screams summer like a pair of classic cut offs, so this look was a no brainer for me. Like the first look, I layered my sweater of a white bralette. My agolde parker shorts (have a full review of them here) pair perfectly with the slouchy sweater. I wanted to keep this look simple, so I added my favorite pearl studs and comfy and casual flip flops. I am always sipping on water, so this outfit just begged for my red, white and blue tumbler.
Outfit Idea #3

I love this sweater because it’s so versatile, it can be dressed up, or even dressed down as a comfy swim cover up. After a day out in the sun, I am always a bit chilly (or sunburnt), so this works perfectly! For the fourth I thought it would be so fun to get a little festive and pair it with my navy gingham swimsuit, my favorite sunnies, and my most loved beach hat.
Bonus Look:

Okay this look is not 4th of July themed at all, but this beach embroidered one is perfect for all summer long, and I even brought it on my Spring Break trip to the BEACH (because I’m cheesy that way).
Sizing: These sweaters are meant to be slouchy. I am wearing the S/M medium size and I would say it fits true to size. If you want a more fitted look than what I have pictured, I would size down.
Discount Code: Use code thetayloredstyleblog15 to receive 15% off your Wooden Ships order! Yahoo! They just released a brand new 4th of July collection and every piece is so cute!
That’s all for today, if you have any questions on any of the sweaters or other items shown, please feel to reach out or leave a comment below.
Xo,
